Paul Parkin Online Counsellor & Life Coach  E-mail

About me.

registered counsellor

My name is Paul Parkin. Here I'll try to tell you a little something about me as a person and as a Professional, experienced Online Counsellor and life coach.  I have reached expert writer status for ezinearticles and have had many of my articles on self esteem and other issues related to fulfilling potential published.

I am a 43 year old British man, I have a 18 year old son and I am divorced. I was born in Durham City in the North East of England.  After spending many years in various career's, including textiles and communications, I chose the caring professions.  I have worked with young people on the edge of society, their parents and educators.  A damaged child, whether it be as a result of sexual, emotional, neglect or physical harm requires special skills and understanding.

 Paul Parkin

I have worked with men, women and Children in crisis and have helped them find the inner strength to move forward from their darkest times.  My role is to walk alongside them while they are helped to find those inner strengths that we all posess.

In 2008 I left my position with the UK's largest children's charity the (NSPCC) as a Practitioner/School's Counsellor.  I worked with Children and young people who were struggling with life, mostly beacuse their basic needs were not met.

I also worked with Parents to help them use simple Parenting strategies and to make Parenting more of a pleasure and less of a nightmare.  No one ever teaches us how to Parent a Child and it is the hardest thing to get right.  I now work with lots of Parents who have problematic relationships with their children, offering strategies to make parenting less of a mystery and much more gratifying. This is often a case of putting in place the correct balance of groundrules and emotional warmth.  Contrary to what most teenagers say, they actually do "like" rules, but they still need to feel loved too.

 Parenting

I've been working as a Counsellor for over 11 years after having a Crisis of my own. This led me into a career change which really has changed my life for the better.  I feel a crisis can be the Awakening we sometimes need in order to move forward, and Counselling has helped me feel comfortable in my own skin.

My qualifications and experience.

I am Qualified in Humanistic Counselling to Diploma level,  have an Advanced Certificate and a Further Certificate, in Humanistic Counselling.  I have also trained in other Counselling Models, relating to Attachment theories and early Childhood Relationships. I have also completed the "Therapeutic work with Children" Post Graduate course.  It is now accepted that many of our Psychological issues as adults, are a consequence of the early childhood relationships with our main caregivers.  This is a particular area of interest for me.

I have also had several years experience in working with clients "Online" this is important, as Counselling Online requires additional skills.

Online Counselling

I have worked in many different settings including: Drug, Alcohol and Gambling Addictions and worked as an Addiction Counsellor.

I have worked with the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) community helping people with  issues including Sexuality, and Coming Out to family and friends. and whether that option is right for them.

 Relationships

My work with individuals and couples experiencing difficulties in their Relationships, is another of my special interests.  A Relationship with another person is dependent on the Relationship we have with ourselves.  Many people, (80% in the UK) did not have what is accepted to be the healthy Attachments that foster fully functioning adults.  Think about that, it means that even if you don't have a small issue from your Childhood, it is very likely that the person you choose to have a Relationship with may have.  I can help people to understand behaviours, to change destructive patterns and help them to make better relationship choices, we can all change with the right help.

In my time with the NSPCC I have helped Children and Adults through all forms of Past and Current Abuse, including Childhood Abuse, Physical, Emotional, Neglect and Sexual.  Confidence building and raising Self Esteem is essential for people that have been hurt.   Helping them to trust again can be a difficult journey, however a skilled Counsellor has the patience, skills and time do that.

As you will see from the above I have a good understanding of the major issues that can cause crisis and have helped people with many different issues and problems.  I am confident in all aspects of Counselling. There's very little (in terms of issues/problems) that I haven't worked on with clients.  whether you see your problem as big or small I will offer you my full support.

See the list of issues at the right hand side of the site for more issues that can be helped by Counselling, maybe check out some of the testimonials from past clients.

My own personal experience of Counselling helped me to appreciate the importance of feeling relaxed and comfortable with your Counsellor, therefore I will do all that I can to answer any questions you have before beginning our journey together. Confidentiality is paramount to us, you can be assured that your privacy is respected.

Let me help you uncover that inner strength and accompany you on your journey to wherever it is you need to go.

Warmest regards - Paul
